Set Up iPhone Verification Codes for MFA

Step 1: Select the authenticator app option

  • After signing in to your myHawaii account from the myHawaii login page, you may be prompted to register for multi-factor authentication (MFA). If so, please follow the steps below.
  • On the MFA registration screen, select Authenticator App from the options.
  • Select Next to continue.

Step 2: Open the Apple Passwords app

  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Passwords app iPhone Passwords app icon featuring colorful keys with three overlapping sections.
  • If you are using iOS 18 or later, this app is automatically installed on your device.

Step 3: Add a new verification code

  • Select Codes from the menu.
  • Tap the + button on the bottom right side of the app to add a new verification code.

Step 4: Scan the QR code

  • Tap Scan QR Code with Camera.
  • Use your iPhone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on the myHawaii Authenticator app registration screen.

  • Select On a mobile device? if you are signing in on a mobile device.

Step 5: Save your login credentials

  • If you have already saved your myHawaii login credentials in the Apple Passwords app, select it from your saved passwords list.
  • If your myHawaii login credentials are not saved, tap the + button on the top right, enter your credentials, and save them.
  • A verification code should appear below the User Name and Password fields.

Step 6: Enter the verification code

  • From the Apple Passwords app, retrieve the 6-digit verification code.
  • Enter the code in the Enter verification code field on the myHawaii page.
  • Select Submit to continue.

Step 7: Save your recovery codes

  • The Recovery codes screen will be displayed.
  • Select Copy or Print to save your recovery codes.

  • These codes allow you to sign in with MFA if you lose access to your iPhone.

Step 8: Complete the MFA setup

  • After saving your recovery codes, select Done.
  • New users will be redirected to their eHawaii.gov profile page.
  • You can now use the iPhone verification codes as part of your MFA sign-in process.
  • You can also add a secondary MFA method from your myHawaii profile page.
